Neuropathy can be stopped, and even reversed, but first the cause must be identified. Nerve symptoms can be a signal of a more serious condition. To prevent permanent nerve disorders, report any symptoms that you discover to your primary care doctor. Not enough people do this, and find themselves with permanent neuropathy symptoms. Learn why you shouldn’t simply ignore your neuropathy symptoms!

Struggling with Neuropathy Symptoms?

Nobody likes to struggle with a chronic condition or disease. Unfortunately, there are countless problems that can go wrong with the body. Just about every single person will end up with some sort of condition, disease or ailment before the end of their life. The body is not perfect and is susceptible to health problems. For example, over 20 million people in the United States experience neuropathy symptoms on a daily basis. For lucky patients, they will only have neuropathy symptoms for a short time as a result of an injury. If you have ever been injured, you may have felt numbness for a short time until your injury healed.

However, for many people, their injury or ailment doesn’t heal, and longer-lasting neuropathy symptoms set in. Neuropathy can be a nuisance for some patients, and completely debilitating to others. It all depends on your symptoms, where they are located, and how severe they are. You certainly want to get medical or professional attention if you have neuropathy symptoms that get in the way of you enjoying your life or completing daily tasks. Many people that struggle with more chronic neuropathy have symptoms such as:

  • Chronic foot, leg or ankle pain
  • Inflammation in the knees, calves or shoulders
  • Limited range-of-motion in a limb or limbs
  • Numbness and tingling in the extremities and limbs
  • Weakness or tremors
  • Headaches and migraines, sometimes daily
  • Chronic aches and pains accompanied by fatigue
  • Stiff neck muscles

Symptoms such as these can interfere with daily life and reduce a person’s quality of life.

Help from a Medical Professional

Seeking help for neuropathy symptoms is an individual decision. However, most people want to make their life easier in any way that they can. Health problems get in the way of many people achieving their goals and even basic, daily tasks. If your symptoms make your day hard or prevent you from feeling the way you want or doing things you enjoy, we definitely recommend seeking treatment for your symptoms. We also recommend seeking medical or professional attention to at least see what is happening with your body. You never want to simply ignore neuropathy symptoms or any other abnormal problem going on with your body. Symptoms are a way for your body to tell you that something isn’t right.

If you have numbness, tingling, chronic pain or more of the symptoms we mentioned above, have a health evaluation. Medical doctors can do this evaluation as well as chiropractic and physical therapy centers. However, you often have to be referred to a chiropractic or physical therapy center by a medical professional. It would be wise to see both a doctor and chiropractor for your symptoms.

Don’t Ignore Your Neuropathy Symptoms

Why is this important? Some forms of neuropathy have no cause, meaning that they are idiopathic. About 30% of neuropathy cases are idiopathic, and the patients may never know the cause of their symptoms. However, you still want to treat the symptoms that are happening—especially numbness and tingling. Neuropathy symptoms such as those signal that parts of your body aren’t getting enough oxygen or blood circulation. This can spell disaster for patients that have chronic conditions such as diabetes. Without vital nutrients, oxygen and blood circulation to all parts of the body, those tissues can die. This happens often with diabetic patients that don’t control their condition.

Your neuropathy symptoms don’t automatically mean that you have a life-threatening condition. In a small number of cases, however, it might. For someone who has slight numbness in a very tiny part of their body, it may not be something that needs immediate attention. However, you always want to have an evaluation just to be safe. Your problem could simply be idiopathic neuropathy, or it could signal a different condition. For 70% of cases, those who are evaluated are also referred to natural therapies, diet plans, posture tips and more that can get rid of their neuropathy symptoms. You can be a person who makes a few small changes in their daily living, and suddenly becomes free of their neuropathy. Bottom line: don’t ignore your neuropathy symptoms. Get checked out and keep yourself healthy by doing so.

Treating Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy, a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, can often cause numbness, weakness, and pain most often in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body.

People with neuropathy often describe the sensation or pain as stabbing, burning and/or tingling. In many cases, symptoms improve, especially if the underlying condition is treated.
